i was involved in a car accident in florida, the hire company appointed a lawyer for me as i was badly injured, i haven’t worked since the crash, they are asking for my tax returns, i’m self empolyed and have my accounts up to date, is this good enough or do they have the right to inland revenue records

I bought a flat in 2006 Oct(as per sale deed) for Rs. 12,16,000 and sold it for 16 lakhs in 2009 Feb,when I stopped working and could no longer pay my EMIs.What will be the % of short term gains that i have to pay?Should I pay advance tax and by when should i file my returns?

I live in Houston, Tx with my mother and father for the past 8 months. He lives in Virginia Beach, Va because he is Active Duty in the Navy. We have a son together that’s a year old who he has never tried to be part of his life since he was born. I relocated to VA late Dec. 2008 after he returned from a deployment. Lasted 2 weeks up there before he choked me and threw me against the stair case. I packed up my few belongings and drove to Houston with my son in the car. He never sent us any type of support, he used credit cards we had together and never made payments on them. I have been fortunate that my family has helped me financially and I have continued my education to obtain my college degree. He has never taken intreast in our son but is asking for joint custody and ability to file him on his tax return odd number of years! Wants to begin paying child support in OCtober but the other 9 months are not even taken account for! I know this is not justice! A little more…within the same week I left him he paid a ticket to take his brother a 23 yearl old man to live with him in the townhouse who he then financed a car for and has not had a job since he moved there and this is his justification why he can’t provied for myself or our son. I have called his command, the obusman, file child support and nothing has gotten done. I recently changed my cell phone number so he would be able to contact me. He calls to insult me and say how ugly I am, that I let myself go because I’m not 110 but 130 in weight. Needless to say I just want this man to disappear because I have so much to achieve on my own and it’s coming together. However legally, attorneys in Houston know nothing about seperation agreements because TX doesn’t have that and the VA attorneys I had tried to contact have placed me on a consulting list for next week. Please, if you know of a great attorney I can consult with or have any time of advise feel free to respond and thank you so much for reading this.

I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992. Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her father was my child’s favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the residents of the city.

Her husband works a union job on the North Slope for BP and is a champion snowmobile racer. Todd Palin’s kind of job is highly sought-after because of the schedule and high pay. He arranges his work schedule so he can fish for salmon in Bristol Bay for a month or so in summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing their major source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been anything like that of native Alaskans. Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters.

She’s smart.

Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000 (at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about 670,000 residents.

During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had given rise to a recall campaign.

Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a “fiscal conservative”. During her 6 years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over 33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they benefited residents.

The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration weren’t enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a new library? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece of property that the City didn’t even have clear title to, that was still in litigation 7 yrs later–to the delight of the lawyers involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5m for road projects that could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing.

While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office redecorated more than once.
These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city.
As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus in Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will make us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she proposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state.In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while she proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today’s surplus, borrow for needs.

I haven’t filed income taxes since 1996. I see commercials all the time for those tax resolution companies to fight (work with) the IRS and settle for less than what is owed. What do they charge and are they successful or a rip-off? Would a certified accountant be just as good? Will I need an attorney or will the IRS work with the accountant? What kind of payment terms does the IRS use and do they file public records (tax lien) during/after payment negotiations are complete? I have no problem paying the back taxes, I just don’t want a record on file with the courts or the credit bureau reporting agencies.
Update: I have Not received any notice from the IRS all these years. I’ve lived in the same location all these years. I’m curious as to why they haven’t notified me to file. I’ve run two very small companies that bought and sold used equipment. Neither company has filed taxes. The first company’s sales records (all out of state) were thrown out accidentally when I lost my lease in 2005. I believe the only way to “guess” income would be through the bank statements for my business accounts. Most of the money earned was used to purchase more equipment. My actual income was probably below $25K a year average. But how to prove that from bank statements would be difficult. I don’t own property or luxury items. I currently have a large inventory of equipment that couldn’t be seized and sold to just anyone, it is a highly specialized industry. The IRS wouldn’t make a penny if sold at public auction. Can a CPA contact the IRS and find out what they have on file?

I am amazed about all the BAD advice I have seen on here for preparing taxes, etc.
I know this is a community forum and everyone should have their say, but some people give advice that doesn’t even exist!
Maybe we should just keep things as they are for a good laugh.

He already had his office but dissolved his partnership and reformed his LLC, first he claimed it was done before we were married, but when the judge ruled in my favor over interim support….he changed that to after we were married and is now trying to include the back payroll and income taxes going back to 2001 (we were married in 2004). Can he do this?

Our legal system is so hard to maneuver through if you are not a lawyer. We have the right to an attorney, but not everyone has the ability to afford one. You have to qualify for a public defender, and legal aid doesn’t take criminal cases. No one takes into consideration what your circumstances are, there’s no help. I feel like if this is our justice system, then our taxes should go to pay for lawyers who are available to anyone. I have nothing against lawyers, my problem is with our legal system. It is all a game of knowing and bending the rules… interestingly, a lot like Yahoo! Answers.

I bought my home about 2 years ago at 7.125%. I had (and still have) excellent credit, but the reason my rate was high is because I went with a stated, no doc loan. That means I didn’t show any tax returns to get my loan (they just needed my ID, bank statements, assets, and credit check). Nowadays, stated and no doc loans do not exist anymore (for good reason). It’s so tempting to refinance now with the rates being so low. But, I can’t. There’s lots of banks offering hardship programs now that will lower/modify your interest rate without refinancing (and I am experiencing some hardship due to the economy), but I would like to know if there are any other options. The bank is Citibank. Does anyone else have this same issue? Should I hire an attorney who specializes in loan modifications? If so, what should I look out for? Thanks in advance.
I forgot to mention that I did apply for the hardship assistance program that my bank is offering, but I was rejected because I was not in enough financial trouble. The rep even hinted that I should pay my next mortgage payment a week late to make it seem like I’m having problems. I really dont want to do that. I just want to lower my rate a little bit and have some extra money to save each month. Thats it.
Ok, I can’t refinance based on their requirements, thats the whole point of my question. I want to modify my loan. Refinancing is not an option. If ya don’t have an answer, then moooove along. Thanks!

The high costs of insurance for doctors and extreme punitive damages have made the costs to be a doctor hugh. Remember it is a practice and doctors are human-they make mistakes. Who in their right mind would want to be a doctor the way they are treated. Give small business tax relief for providing health care and they would probably pay for it. We offer insurance and pay 60% and only one person takes it out of 11 full time workers- they don’t want to pay $30 a week. Plus they don’t get free handouts from the government if they have insurance or assets. The same reason they clean out their SEP retirement.

I am considering using Nationwide Tax Relief to assist with an IRS issue. Has anyone ever used them and if so what was your experience. Thank you.
Someone had replies that if I could not pay my original taxes that this issue would probably not work.
Details: I always did and do pay my taxes and always on time. Unfortunately, my former spouse has not paid his taxes in about 8-10 years. He was self employed and always suggested I file married/separate because he always had to file an extension. One year after our divorce was final, the IRS contacted me to say I was being audited. They even told me that is was not really me they wanted…but it was my former spouse and they would go through me to get him. We live in Texas which is a community property state…so any back taxes he owes I owe half…and because of his negligence we are talking about almost seven figures (yuck). So that is what I am dealing with. We have someone that is redoing his back taxes but I am worried about garnished wages and frozen accounts…with my current spouse. (i can’t believe he was crazy enough to marry me with all this bad stuff…grin)
I was not aware that my former spouse was not paying his taxes…who would ever think their spouse would do those things.
