This could be bad news for the the Pimps and Hookers! No more free advise funded by the tax payers. Do you think Obama will create a Vice Tax Czar to help these people?
We live in Washington. We own a home that has 95K in equity – but we owe the IRS about 85K. We have gone through the pre bankruptcy counseling and they say we HAVE to file – because we are in the hole 6K per month (long story – I owned a business and got very ill). My income is commission only – and I don’t have commissions coming in which is why I need to file Pro Se’. Basically – do I let the trustee sell my house? Do I need an attorney to make sure the taxes are discharged (they have been owing for over 3 years and over 2 years since I’ve filed – and also the 3rd rule I’ve passed too) because that would be horrible to walk away without them discharged. I have 2 cars I want to give back. If I file now – how long can i live in the home and when do I need to surrender the cars ? I don’t want to milk the system – I just want to find a place to live and have enough time to earn a commission (should be 30 days away)
They may have changed the rules – but I know you can do it pro se. The reason I would even try is I used to be a creditor rep that goes to court and I reviewed every petition to find fraud. I know most things – it’s just the tax lien stuff and the sale of the home I don’t. My attorney wants $1500 up front. It is so embarrassing – I used to make $10K per week – and now I’m reduced to not being able to pay an attorney. Life goes on.
Do they not know they will 25 different answers for a question and none of them may be correct? I have been answering on this, but am done..I get thumbs down for correct info when people get thumbs up for dumba** answers. My question: Who would actually ask a question here if they want- or need- real answers opposed to simple opinions?
Ah, such great replies…people do want free tax advice and the answers they are looking for irregardless to if they are accurate or not. I copy and paste a lot of my info from IRS.gov…as they do have the correct answers I would hope. Bostonia, with all your intelligience you should realize this.
You can give a man a fish and feed him for a day or you can teach him to fish and feed him for a lifetime!
My husband and I told her that she must have a business license and tax I.D. number before she began this endeavor. She insists that all her friends who do this do not have these. We are also worried about how she can protect her photos from just being copied and her “friends” did not give us any helpful information. She takes photos of places and people and would like to sell to magazines and such.
Should I go or cancel my Appointment with IRS, or go with a lawyer if I find one that I can afford. or make payments but how do I stop the interest, will having a big family help.
Anyone know of a website where I can get free tax advice? Please DO NOT answer “idk” if you don’t know. DO NOT answer at all if you don’t know. Thanks.
I spent 2008 working in both the USA and Netherlands (different jobs) and the majority of my income has come from my time abroad. What irs forms do I need to fill out to avoid double taxation? How does one file Dutch income taxes? What documents will I need? Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.
Yesterday I officially incorporated my home/online based business as a LLC. I’m now realizing that I have many questions as to how to maximize my tax write offs for the upcoming year. I need to know if I should continue to purchase business start up costs using my personal checking account, or should I wait until I open my business account once I get all my incorporation papers? I also have many questions as to what exactly I can write off, how much I’ll get back, and how long it will take to get the money back. I have questions about rent, 1099 forms, etc. I realize that at some point I’m going to have to hire a local tax professional, I’m just hoping to find someone here who is willing to answer my questions and continue further communications.
If there’s anyone out there who’s willing to help, or at least answer the few questions I posted above, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking!
i did my taxes online(for the first time by myself)usally we will go to HandR block and get them done. anyways, i decided this year to do somthing diferent. plus my best friend had done them at the same place. i went to this web site: citizentax.com and everything was going good til i messed something up. i had gotten so flustered that i didnt realize i had just submitted my federal taxes with the whole form blank, only my husbands and i s.s numbers!!! tryed canceling everything, i thought everything was fine and the next day, i had my best friend re-do my federal, well now the irs thinks someone is using our s.s numbers and i have to sign and send them in and call and explain the whole situation, i mean i dont mind all that. i guess i feel so stupid for trying to do something by myself and doubting me so much that i think im wrong when really im not and now im stuck…..what to do and am i the only one?what should i do for next year?
This was a sting and the “prostitute” claimed she wanted to start a child prostitution brothel yet ACORN was still very happy to help and even happier to make her a new paying member.
Five years ago my fiance went in to H&R Block to have his taxes done. He is a commercial fisherman out of Dutch Harbor,AK. That year ,when the fishing season ended and he was home in Oregon,he worked for two weeks at a jiffylube. He ended up owing almost 900$ in taxes &H&R told him it was cuz he worked two wks in Oregon they taxed ALL hispay. He told him if he hadn’t had “Oregon income” he wouldn’t have had Oregon income tax .So he figured he wdn’t work in Ore on his off time. he hadn’t filed taxes for afewl yrs when we got together.federal too.But his company withholds federal for him but no state since he believed he didn’t need to pay it. I take it all to a tax dude and he figures out he owes a BUNCH. He files and pays off the latest year. He now owes almost $40,000
after interest, penalties etc,& they filed a distraint warrant .he gave me power of attorney to represent for taxes since he is gone. The DOR doesn’t wnt to drop much penalties etc. How cn we get it to justtax orig. owed
I called a tax lawyer last year about a formerly unknown audit issue that I read about in the newspaper. The tax lawyer said I didn’t need to worry about the situation. During the conversation I agreed to retain the lawyer for my tax matters.
I read some more things about the tax issue a few months later and visited the lawyer. He again said I didn’t have anything to worry about. Then I read about the issue again a few weeks later and called a different lawyer.
The other lawyer said I was in big trouble and might owe thousands of dollars and even face prosecution by the IRS. She said I could have fixed the matter months ago but I didn’t do anything because of the original lawyer’s advice.
I told the original lawyer about what I discovered and he did some research and said I was indeed in big trouble. Its like he forgot telling me I had nothing to worry about. He now wants money from me to represent me in the matter and is saying I will probably owe thousands of dollars to the IRS. Had he given me proper advice months ago I would owe nothing.
I’m so screwed with the IRS now and the lawyer wants more money from me because they helped prepare my 2008 taxes and did some “research on the matter”. What can I do?
i really need legal help on this. in the divorce 2002 i got a piece of property. by may of 2004 my ex had ruined my income on that property and put me in a position to sell it back to him. i agreed after stating that the only way i would was an exchange of prior marital assets so that i did not have to pay taxes on the gains of the sale. i gave my brother power of attorney to close the deal for me because i was out of the USA. somehow my ex screwed me and his attorney 1099ed me to the tune of over $100,000 to pay taxes on…to the feds and the state i owe almost $25,000.00 I don’t have the money and my acct says she sees no way that i don’t owe this. i’m not faulting her. is there anything that i can do legally about this…i am just so tired of trying so hard to do the right thing and then getting screwed any way…my ex was always stiffing the government when he really owed them..and this is one more thing he pulled on me and is laughing about. forgive me i feel sorry for myself
What are some good questions to ask potential candidates?
