Attorneys: How to establish a practice in immigration?

07 Jun

In particular, representing Chinese. I am fluent in Mandarin. My Chinese friends have urged me to consider immigration law. I have been doing taxes for years and am thinking about switching. What groundwork or basics should one follow? Does one need to live/work in a huge city? Is there any money in it?

Sincere advice appreciated, thanks.
I have been a tax attorney for 20 years.
Any suggestions re learning immigration law? Law school course vs. CLE?

Do those commercials for attorneys helping people eliminate tax debt bug you like they do me?

04 Jun

They’re on all the time, and I just watched one with a woman who supposedly saved over $1.7 million in back taxes. Now, I don’t know about most Americans, but I don’t watch those things and go, “Whooowee! That is awesome!” I really hope and pray that the majority of what those people are eliminating is truly penalties and interest, because otherwise it sucks, and I think those people (who seem to be mostly business owners) should be paying their taxes just like everyone else. And here’s another thing I wanna know: From what type of funds are those attorneys being paid?? No doubt, they are making a nice little profit, like disability lawyers.

To qualify 4 mortgage does child support received through an agreement done by our attorneys count 4 income…?

02 May

Id like to know if my bank can consider child support that i receive as a source of income. This agreement has already been signed by me and him we are waiting on the court date for the judge to make it final. I am getting my house and I would only qualify if the bank counts it. I have been receiving the money already.
Why as this question? I was preapproved for x ammount with final inspection pending in 2 days, now my bank received the taxes for the house and they say they assumed the taxes were lower, so if I do not come up with another source of income for at least 300 (which is fine if they approve the child suuport I receive the way it is. right now.) then I wouldnt qualify for the house.

Can a person have 2 durable power of attorneys?

29 Apr

Heres the deal. My grandma appointed my uncle “durable power of attorney”, and she has a living husband. Now my Grandpa wants durable power of attorney over her, because he is having a hard time getting my uncle or my grandma to sign the income tax. She is just coming out of a mental hospital so she is unable to sign for herself, and my uncle will not sign either. He wants to know if you can have 2 durable power of attorneys, or if there is some way he can override both of them and become a higher power of attorney over her brother. If so, we need to know how to go about doing this.

What kind of attorneys serve a more purpose full career in regards to helping people?

29 Apr

I am sure law is what I would like to pursue as well as my purspose. I am passionate when it comes to people being taken advantage of and I am just looking for my path. I like consumer law because companies make millions and billions of dollars. They sell faulty equipment, medicine, false hope, etc. It breaks consurmers spirit of hope. Family law for me is biased to the male’s point of view, in child custody, especially when it comes to divorce. Tax law; it is a shame how certain individuals( the tax enforcement agency with three letters) can prey on small business but big companies can have a million times more profit than a smaller company, who knows where thier charity money goes; probably to an offshore bank and the gov want to float their capital and keep them afloat by their non verbal way of threatening the gov……..and they get bailed out., Prosecuter and litigation would be a good venue too. Litigation would allow me to express my point of view and my charizma in the court. Me, a prosecuter………………I would make judge in about 10 years, because I would hand out sentences like water in the summer time. These criminals have no regard to people’s lives………or the people who love people they are harming………….people killing people. What can somebody do so much that would drive someone to kill, rape, rob, ect. them. Life is tthe most valuable thing on this earth and criminals treat other’s lifes like a piece of paper. What are do you think I will be most effective at by what I have told you thus far?????

Attorneys or someone who knows the law, please answer this!?

23 Apr

Ok, this happened to some friends of ours. They got a letter in the mail saying they won $50,000 from Publisher’s Clearing House. There was a check enclosed for $3000 something, it said it was to help pay the International taxes, and a phone number to talk to a contact in New York. They thought it was a scam, but they took this $3000 to the bank anyway, and the bank said it was a real check and they cashed it. They spent the $3000 on whatever, and called this guy in New York who told them that they had to Western Union $2000 to someone to “pay for their taxes.” Well this made them very uncomfortable so they called Publisher’s Clearing house. PCH told them that if they won anything over $10,000 from them they delivered a certified check to their house there was no kind of “taxes” to pay, and said this was a scam. So now they’ve spent the initial $3000 and NOW the bank says it bounced and this couple owes their bank $3000 for the bounced check. My question is, why, if the bank cashed it
in the first place, would they owe this money back to the bank? And can my friends do anything to this person who scammed them for emotional distress that they caused them?
