My ex is an attorney and paid back payroll taxes for his LLC, is this part of the property settlement?

He already had his office but dissolved his partnership and reformed his LLC, first he claimed it was done before we were married, but when the judge ruled in my favor over interim support….he changed that to after we were married and is now trying to include the back payroll and income taxes going back to 2001 (we were married in 2004). Can he do this?

When an attorney garnishes a bank account in error, how do you stop it and get it the money back?

My husband had an outstanding credit card debt that was being taken from our income tax return for the last several years.

The debt was sold, like it was never recouped, and they were able to take it from our bank account. When we contacted them about it, they said their records did not show the debt was paid. They bought it as an unpaid debt and are taking it out.

We got copies from the IRS showing where the debt was taken from our tax returns and not only was paid in full, but overpaid by $1000.00.

They said said they would look into it, but then just hit our account again, a second time, emptying it. How can we stop this? HELP!
The tax refunds they are taking are our State refunds. We do not know how they are doing it. We have never seen any type of court paperwork…..been served……gotten any in the mail…..nothing. Just when the tax return is due a letter comes in it’s place saying it went to pay a debt and to whom. (Providian National Bank Collections)

Now a different attorney had hit our bank accounts…..twice now. Using the same debt as what the other attorney used to take our tax returns. When we contacted them after the first time, letting them know that our tax returns had already covered this debt, in full, they wanted proof. We made copies of the letters, and had a printout from the state, and sent it to them. They said they would look into it……..but never did. They just hit our account again.

We are trying to find out what we can do to get this to stop, and what we can do to get our money back. This debt is way over paid now.

Will paying back real estate taxes give me ownership to a home?

My grandmother recently passed away leaving her house to my cousin. He has no job and no way of taking care of this house. The taxes on the property have not been payed in 7 years. There is no lien against the house, so what is it that I have been hearing about tax sales. If I pay these back due taxes, do I have ownership to the home? Or what other rights will it give me?

re: back taxes.?

Doesn’t the IRS have to contact you in writing before they put a lien on a bank account?

I just learned that one of my checking accounts has an IRS lien on it and I’ve had no communication from or with them.

Due to reasons too in depth to go into here (none of which will be good enough for the IRS, I’m sure), I haven’t filed taxes for many years. Yes, I’ve had income. It’s one of those things that I’ve just put my head in the sand about, knowing one day I’d have to deal with it. It’s been WAY longer than the 2-3 years many say it takes for the IRS to ‘catch up with you’ …

HOW FAR BACK can they go? What’s my best course of action to deal with this lien and come clean?

Get a tax attorney? Has anyone had any GOOD experiences with those places that offer to help with this stuff?

I’m trying not to panic, but I’m getting there…

Is paying back taxes to IRS a valid 401(k) hardship withdrawal? What if a 401(k) is levied or seized?

“Avoid foreclosure” is listed as a valid hardship w/d reason. What about paying back IRS taxes? Would one have to wait for lien, or seizure? Does 10% penalty apply if w/d is paid directly to IRS? What if IRS seizes a 401k? thank you

How far back can New York State audit back tax filings?

I just received a letter saying I owe back taxes plus interest from the tax yr ending 12/31/00. I was a student and then worked overseas and earned no income in NYS. I did file, but they only have my amended return on file, not the original. Can they really go back 7 years?

How can I get my money back after being ripped off by the tax resolution scam “Effectur”?

I hired the tax resolution company Effectur to handle tax debt with IRS.

They stalled until my fees were paid in full, and then stopped work and wouldn’t return calls or emails. I hired Effectur to handle my tax debt with IRS. They stalled until my fees were paid in full, and then stopped work and wouldn’t return calls or emails. Additionally, in April, 2009, Effectur failed to relay to me a urgent request from the IRS Revenue Office handling my case that he needed certain documents by April 15. As a result, the IRS filed liens against my company, and it resulted in my appearing to be non-cooperative with the IRS and the Revenue Officer, even though I have been seeking in good faith to resolve the matter with the IRS.

Currently, Effectur has taken no action with regard to my case for nearly two months while the IRS has pressed for a response and has filed additional liens against my company. I have asked Effectur, to no avail, for nearly two months to: 1) to follow-up with the IRS on my behalf; 2) to provide me with copies of any recent correspondence involving the IRS, if any; and 3) to provide me with a list of all contacts on my behalf between Effectur and the IRS or IRS Revenue Agent, including the name of the Effectur staff member who interacted with the IRS and what the outcome of the call or correspondence was.

I have discussed the case and this matter with Effectur Case Manager Walter Wallace and CFO Jack Rayfield, to no avail.

After months of Effectur’s stalling, it has become clear that this is a complete rip-off, and consistent with the dozens of similar stories I have read about on such internet boards as ComsumerComplaints.com, Ripoffreport.com, among others.

Therefore, I am asking for my fees back, so I can engage an attorney or company who will represent me with the IRS. (According to CEO Kenneth Johnson, as stated on Effectur’s own site: ‘Effectur guarantees results for each client. We strive to be very ethical and do things right from the first phone call. We’ll give you honest advice and a straight answer right up front,’ adds Johnson.” See: http://www.effectur.com/inthenews.aspx?id=53 )

It is particularly troubling that Effectur requested and received power of attorney and is acting as my fiduciary here with the IRS. This is clearly not a reputable company, and should have regulatory action taken against it for the good of people who find themselves in need of help dealing with the IRS.

They are a disgrace.

Any suggestions about what I can do?

I calculated 2007 taxes on www.IRS.gov. I will be overpaying $2,777, but they are only paying back $400. Why?

—Quote from www.IRS.gov—
Based on the information you previously entered, your anticipated income tax for 2007 is $1,015. If you do not change your current withholding arrangement, you will have $3,792 withheld for 2007, resulting in an overpayment of $2,777 when you file your return. If you want your withholding to more closely match your anticipated tax, adjust your withholding on a new Form W-4 as follows:
For the only job you entered (which has a projected salary of $18,106): 1 allowance.
Check the “Single” box on your Form W-4.

Assuming these recommended allowance(s) are in effect for the rest of 2007, your expected refund should be about $400. Following this recommendation will ensure that the amount withheld from your wages will cover all of your projected tax liability while minimizing your refund.
—End Quote—
