Is it better to work at a small law firm assisting one lawyer or is it better to work at a larger firm??
I did two interviews at a law firm. One of the position was doing secretary/ receptionist.. As I get experiences, I would get my own clients. This frim is mid size with about 10 employees. I did other interview today. This law firm had only one attorney where I would have to work as executive assistant. As a beginner, is it better to work with more co workers or is it okay to work for one lawyer? What is better? Which one would you prefer? Also doing tax, is it better to be paid as independent contractor where I have to do my own taxes or it it better for me to be in the payroll where they do my taxes? which one would be better? any suggestion?
Is it possible to get relief from IRS debt without hiring an expensive firm? Can it be done by the individual?
2001 taxes not paid. X wife did not file. H&R Block processed taxes. X wife did not send them in. During this time was having bladder and prostate removed due to cancer. Taxes were the last thing on my mind. Have in the mean time, divorced, the then wife and am strapped with $40K worth of IRS debt. Interest is compounding. How in a lifetime could anyone ever pay this debt off? Do I have to refinance my house to eliminate this debt? Can I fight this on my own without the help of any firm that charges no less than $3K and can give no guarantees? Will be glad to send a letter to my Congressman, State Representative, etc. for any advice they can give. Any suggestions?
What are the benefits of making a law firm an LLC?
My firm is currently a sole proprietorship and I’m getting hammered on taxes. I’m taking in close to 1 million per year and paying half in taxes. My accountant doesn’t seem to think a corporation would be the way to go but I need a second opinion any advice.
How many hours per week does a lawyer work in a big firm?
If you want to know more details, say for a first or second year associate in a very big firm, specializing in tax law
Law firm contacts me and says they are suing for a credit card debt?
My roommate had bad credit and purchased a couch under my name, proceeded to sell it on Ebay and then gamble the money away. Now a law firm has contacted me saying they are suing me and I will be responsible for attorney’s fees and court costs. My credit has been damaged anyway due to other things with my old roommate. Should I be worried that they will sue and force me to pay it by taking it out of my paycheck or taxes?
Can you be a lawyer in one firm and be a partner in another?
Or would it be too much of a hassle if you were a tax lawyer or corporate lawyer?
What about a part time partner in a business firm?
Should I work for accounting firm or law firm?
I am graduating a 2nd tier law school near NYC area. I was lucky enough to secure a job before at one of the Big 4 accounting firms in NYC starting this fall. The problem with this job is that (1) it is not a law firm, so I won’t be practicing law technically, and (2) I’m not too crazy about tax law (or accounting). But it’s a very reputable firm and pay and benefit is good.
I’ve gotten mixed reviews from people about how I must start with a law firm to get experience, and it will be hard for me to branch out once I focus on tax law right after school. My concern is that my grades are not the highest (I have 3.0GPA) and I’m not at a first tier law school. I know the job market is pretty bad and I’m not sure if I can get a job that will pay comprable to what I’ll get paid from the accounting firm.
What should I do? Is the legal job market in NYC really that bad? I wouldn’t mind working for a smaller firm, as long as I can get paid enough to cover my loans and expenses.
New Job in a Law Firm, but have been told to pay own tax?
I have landed a great job at a law firm, they will support me whilst I study the FILEX, but I am on a 3 days They have offered me a 3 days trial which I am soon to end. They have offered me a standard daily rate and have told me to pay tax out of it myself! They said that I will be responsible for paying that. IS this legal. They also advsertised for a caseworker and LSC supervisor, but they have taken the notice out of the papers and have asked me to complete a form stating that I am competent as a Supervisor. I have told them that I am not, but they have insisted that I try and complete as much as I can.
I left my last job to start this one, as it seemed great with my own office, book in my own clients, have lunch when I want. What should I do?

Could the experience requirement for CPA licensure (California) be fulfilled by working as a tax attorney at a law firm under the supervision of tax attorneys who are also licensed CPAs (JD/CPAs)?
Thanks!
Does a garnishee have the right to ask the law firm that represents the creditor for a W9 form from the law fi?
The garnishment checks are pay to the order of the creditors, not the law firm. This is a civil money judgment issued by the District Court in Colorado. I have never heard of the garnishee asking for a W9 form from the creditor’s attorney before & it doesn’t make any sense to me as the garnishee is not paying the law firm anything. The garnishee will not be issuing the law firm a 1099 or any other tax form.
