Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Attorney in Florida?

16 May

Can someone recommend a knowledgeable Bankruptcy attorney in Hillsborough, Pasco or Pinellas County? I was told that I may be able to charge-off my income taxes, if they are 7 years old. I have to file a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy as I can’t afford to pay my outstanding bills. My IRS taxes are from 2003 and 2008. The 2008 I only owe about $500. The 2003 I owe over $11,300. I can’t seem to get ahead as I’ve only been paying $25 monthly payment agreement that I made with them in January 2010. I can’t afford to pay any higher, as my income is extremely low. I also have private student loans from a bank, but they are not listed as student loans; they’re listed as private loans. Can I have these private student loans discharged as well? I owe about $100,000 in debt which includes income taxes, federal student loans, and other financial debts.

Why is Turbotax telling me to file a state tax return in Florida?

11 May

I may be mistaken, but usually Turbotax doesn’t ask me to purchase/file a state tax return. I’ve used Turbotax for years to file my taxes. Am I missing something? There is no state income tax in Florida, unless that changed recently. Any other idea why it would tell me that (glitch)?
Nope, I don’t own a business. I’m claiming the first-time home buyer tax credit. That’s really the only thing different this year.

What would be the Federal and FL state tax liabilities for a 200k estate in Florida?

10 May

I am to be named sole beneficiary to a small, approximately 200,000 dollar estate, mainly a condominium, in the state of Florida. As sole beneficiary, what can I expect approximately in estate taxes both for the State of Florida and for the Federal Government? Please do not respond by saying “check with a lawyer, accountant, estate planner” or any other answer like that. Just looking for an EDUCATED answer based on current tax laws. Thanks in advance for your help.

Can Florida residents get property tax relief?

29 Apr

Nearly everyone who bought a home in South Florida in the past 4-5 years paid a premium price and the property taxes reflect those exorbitant values. Many homes are worth a fraction of what they once were. Can property owners get any type of tax relief to reflect the lower property values?
