Does Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s church have the 501c3 tax-exemption for religious organizations? Did he preach anything political? If that church does have that exempt status, and if Rev. Wright did preach political agenda, then he broke the law…. Then that church’s tax exempt status should be removed…. The Trinity United Church of Christ.

I did two interviews at a law firm. One of the position was doing secretary/ receptionist.. As I get experiences, I would get my own clients. This frim is mid size with about 10 employees. I did other interview today. This law firm had only one attorney where I would have to work as executive assistant. As a beginner, is it better to work with more co workers or is it okay to work for one lawyer? What is better? Which one would you prefer? Also doing tax, is it better to be paid as independent contractor where I have to do my own taxes or it it better for me to be in the payroll where they do my taxes? which one would be better? any suggestion?

Due to not paying income taxes for over 5 years—-lost of job and behind the bills…… and lost our old CPA, we were FORCED to hire a lawyer before the new CPA would process our paper.

My questions is when can i let go of this lawyer? The reason i am saying this is:
1. We have nothing to hide. We claim all the income and expense as our best knowledge without try to cheat in any other way…..
2. We have enough saving to pay all the penatly and interest in cash.

So far, i don’t really see any benefits in my knowledge we receive from the lawyer but we still have to pay him $?00/hour every time he reviews our profiles. write to IRA…talk to us…. We paid all cash for any late charges so far. And it was very simple—-the bill from IRS and i wrote a check.
I just paid the IRS the last one year of penalty and interest yesterday.

So I am thinking is this the time to let go the lawyer. i guess i want to get a 2nd opinion from others besides hearing like the CPA was telling us the lawyer is protecting our right—-that kind of thing.=====I were late for tax, so I was willing to pay IRS and did and want to get this over with before more bills from lawyer.

if you can tell me what right i was protected from lawyer, your response is welcome, but please be specific.

If you know anything i should know about before i let go the lawyer, or you know when is the best time to let go of the lawyer, you are welcome.

I have no objection to lawyers, but we have been working so hard to catch our life– really need no more unnecessary bills to harden our life.

We did have hard time to find the one who deal with the oversea tax and that’s why i use this one who was introduced to us after many many calls and supposed to be reliable, dependable and not really affordable……….anyway he did all the paper and if i can find a good one i will take the opportunity…..

I had originally hired my attorney to set up child support, and visitation rights. We had an signed agreement stating that I pay her $100-150 a month, until paid off. She set up the visitation and child support for $800 total.
Well, I had to quit my job, because I am a high risk pregnancy, and my fiance is the only one in our family who has an income. He just makes $9 an hour, which supports 6 people.
Initially, I had told her, once I became unemployed, that I cannot afford to pay her by myself, that I will pay her the child support checks, and the rest at income taxes. Well, I had only received one check, which I needed, because our water bill got shut off. This has all been about a 7 month period.
She had talked to me like I hadn’t told her any of this, she knew about our water bill getting shut off, and she knew I wouldn’t be able to pay her, I asked her if I needed to find another lawyer, and she said no. I imagine it was because she expected to get something by then, but still.
We both have our area where I feel we have a fault. She did not set up the visitation rights, she has the child support set up. But no visitation rights. She also is charging my an extra $75 per every half hour I had called her on the phone with questions or she had talked on my case. Which she has 13 calls. I didn’t know all of this, I didn’t know that it would cost me to talk to her, I imagine she probably told me.. Nobody I know has ever heard of that, my fiance on the other hand, he had amazing lawyers, they were more expensive, but they actually worked on his case, and made a committment. I think they should have been paid more, on how great they did.
My lawyer wants the initial $800, and then some. Even though she did not do the whole case, and she said she can’t do anything else for me… which means she’s not going to finish.
Does she deserve the full $800? I was going to offer $400, since she did half the work, and if she agreed, give her $600, for waiting, because I understand a lot of lawyers wouldn’t do that, and she has waited quite long enough.
It irritated me, because she had talked to me yesterday, like I hadn’t informed her of anything, I told her ahead of time that I will pay her tax time, if I can’t pay her beforehand. I have a very cheap lawyer, I do agree. In this case, it’s a matter of you get your moneys worth, obviously. I could have gone to legal aid, and got what she did done. I’m eligible… I understand that you are in a much higher law firm. She just now started out.
This is the same lawyer my father had, she charged him less than $400, that was a matter of getting child support settled..

Need to catch up on taxes and do ‘04-Present.
Most of that time I have been a tipped waiter and will therefore owe $ versus be getting a refund.
So, I’m thinking that obtaining a tax lawyer or a tax expert in order to minimize the damage and arrange a good payment plan will be worth the extra $ spent on one (vs going to the neighborhood H&R Block).

Follow up questions:
Is there a good way to search for a good, experienced tax lawyer?

And how much will I likely need to spend on one?

Any good advice or information would be very much appreciated.

Where do I stand? How do I go about this, as far as she wants the full $800, if she didn’t finish the job, and won’t finish, yet insist that she get the full $800, if she won’t finish it, do I need to still pay her in full according to the agreement? She is a very cheap lawyer, obviously. My father had her as a lawyer, to get child support settled, and he paid her less than $400.
Legally, she has not finished her job, which is the only reason I am concerned. If she would have done her job, I would be happy to pay her for it, plus more, for being so patient, but she’s not going to do her job. That’s the only reason I am asking this. Thank you.

I had a company prepare my taxes and they actually messed up my paperwork. I was supposed to get a state and federal refund and they messed up the names of my children on the paperwork so now I have to pay $5,000 to the IRS. But the company admits to having made the mistake and are supposedly trying to get this fixed but they have been doing this since Feburary. So I just want to know what kind of lawyer do you need to sue these people so they have to take care of all the fines because it was their mistake.

I served 4 years in the Army reserve and was medically discharged due to Schizophrenia on the military part and Bipolar type I on the civilian side, and they’re making me pay $1300 because I didn’t finish my 6-year contract due to developing this mental illness.

I contacted a officer about it and he said the military isn’t supposed to do that and to contact a lawyer asap…the US government has a Pioneer Credit Recovery on me threatening me to stop the SSI and SSDI benefits along with all my social security benefits.

I don’t know if trying to do my own taxes with all the different tax forms and laws that pertained back then, its pretty confussing. I don’t know if the IRS people would be willing or able to reduce my penalitys as maybe someone like H & R Block or some other tax people. Thru the years I have made payments off and on working with the IRS but that was about 3-4 or 5 yrs ago. I’m currently a tax lawyer working in Melbourne Australia. Quite bored in Melbourne and work is slow because of the economic times we are going through. I have an opportunity to work in either Sydney or in the US (LA or New York). If I move to one of the US cities, I will of course have to sit the applicable Bar Exam. I am thinking that Sydney will be mostly like Melbourne. Is it worth moving to a new country (i.e. the US) and which city in the US would be best in terms of lifestyle – NY or LA? Can an attorney file a bankruptcy for a client who resides in a different state than the one he resides in? i.e. Could a lawyer put out a national add campaign to get clients, then file for those clients nationally?

Does the lawyer actually have to be IN the courtroom during the process, or is it something that can have paperwork sent in like filing for a business license or tax id?

Is bankruptcy a county thing or a state thing? in other words, if a person in lets say Texas files bankruptcy, do they need to go to Austin for the court hearing, or do they stay in their county and go to the county court office?
