How to know LOCAL sales tax info for Schedule A on 1040?

02 Jun

I see the IRS has a table to look up the STATE sales tax based on your income range. But what if you live in one of the UNLISTED states, then how to you know what number to use for the “Local general sales tax rate?” Many states have A, B, or C listed under the local section, but many states aren’t listed at all. Please explain, with links if possible.
Rob, try again. The state I am in DOES charge state sales taxes. This has nothing to do with W2 income.
Say you live in NM, TN, TX, or FL. ALL of those states charge a state sales tax. But if you lived in those states, what LOCAL rate would you use? The IRS has the tables for all 50 states for the state rate, but only SOME states have the LOCAL rate listed. So how do you know if you should use local table A,B,C,or D for each of those states I mentioned when those particular states dont have a corresponding Local table??

Say the software is TAXACT, but even if not, the IRS is not clear. So if your state is not on the list to look up the local table, you are on your own to determine or guess your local tax rate?

How business proftis outside USA be remitted back to USA after paying local taxes, still taxable in USA?

07 May

last year I moved from USA to india to start new business. Since first year is normally for erection and installation of machinery as there was no commecial production, but this year I’m expecting profit after meeting operating expense. Now if I pay the income tax as per local country’s rule how should I remitt those profits back to USA so that it may be re-invested in other business in USA or other overseas countreies. Do I have to pay taxes on those profits in USA? how should I get my indian company’s operation recognized in USA i.e. having a parent company in USA and branch office in India like that? Since I’m an USA citizen I deifinitely feel more comfortable to report all my earnings including overseas to IRS
so that in future I may have sufficient funds to start a good business or do investment in my own country.

Where can I find the Local Income tax tables for every state?

22 Feb

I am in need of a website that index all of the current local income tax tables (The percentage of someone’s income that they pay for local taxes). Many counties in a state require a small percentage (less than 1% of their income taxed on a local level.

I found the one for Indiana:

I need something like that for each state

Thanks!

What does this tax question mean? If you paid state & local income taxes in 2007 for a prior year?

22 Feb

“If you paid state and local income taxes in 2007 for a prior year (such as taxes paid in 2007 as a balance due on your 2006 state income tax return), include this amount as other state and local income taxes paid.

Other state and local income taxes: $____”

While filing online, I got an alert here. I did not enter anything in. What exactly is the question asking?
